A Hampton Jitney bus tilting precariously to its left (driver’s) side following a mock crash with a silver late-model Ferrari at the northern end of Agawam Park in Southampton Village was a head-turner for passing motorists Wednesday morning, April 20, as crews prepared to film scenes for the USA Network television show “Royal Pains.”

According to production assistants at the scene, Dr. Hank Lawson, played by Mark Feuerstein, is expected to come across the crash after hearing it while in Southampton Village. The actual crash itself is not expected to be a motion scene, the production assistants said.

Crews shuffled about preparing the crash scene and setting up sidewalk arrays of outdoor dining tables under umbrellas in bright spring colors along the northern side of Jobs Lane on Wednesday morning. Shopkeepers emerged from stores on the northern end of Jobs Lane, remarking about the nice addition of the artificial cherry trees outside their businesses. Additionally, two large inflatable strawberries were being aired up behind the Jitney, although production assistants could not immediately explain their purpose.

Cast members huddled on the traffic island, where tents for a “Southampton Celebration of the Arts Children’s Art Festival” were lined up.

Filming for the show has been under way in the village throughout the week.
